  Route 52 Causeway Bridge Replacement
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) began in Summer 2006 the first part of its $400 million project to replace the Route 52 Causeway bridges and the roadway section between Somers Point and Ocean City, including the elimination of the Somers Point Circle. The work is expected to last until 2012. This is one of NJDOT's largest projects and is critical because it is the emergency evacuation route for Ocean City.

One Meridian Plaza

February 23, 1991, a high-rise office building fire at One Meridian Plaza claims the lives of three firefighters and gutted eight floors of the 38-story fire resistive building causing an estimated $100 million in property and business loss. Twenty months after the fire, this building, one of Philadelphia's tallest, situated on Penn Square directly across from City Hall, still stood unoccupied and fire-scarred, its structural integrity in question.

Demolition begun in 1997 and lasted through 2000. Demolition of the One Meridian Plaza was a unique project in which the building was dismantled piece by piece. The reason for the unique demolition method is that the Meridian was physically attached to another skyscraper and it was also across the street from city hall. An implosion could not be done without risking serious property damage to surrounding structures.

This is the sixth-tallest building ever to be demolished, and the tallest outside of New York City and Chicago.
